This Privacy Policy describes how Codepur ("Company", "we", "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use LazyReel ("Service"). This policy complies with the Information Technology Act, 2000, the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011, and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 of India.
The key principle: LazyReel is a local-first application. Your video, audio, image, and project files live on your Mac and are edited, rendered, and exported there. We never receive them. The only time any part of your content leaves your machine is when you personally start a cloud AI feature, and section 4 lists every one of those, along with exactly what it sends.
Signing in is required for paid plans purchased from lazyreel.app. Setapp users are entitled through Setapp and can use the app without a LazyReel account, in which case none of the data below exists.
| Data | Purpose | Storage |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | Account identification, licence, support | Our authentication service and cloud database |
| Display name | Shown in the app UI | Our authentication service |
| Profile photo URL | Shown in the app UI | Our authentication service |
| Our authentication service | Unique account identifier | Our authentication service |
| Data | Purpose | Storage |
|---|---|---|
| Machine identifier (hashed) | Device limit on paid plans (2 devices), free-tier export counting | Our cloud database |
| Device label (for example "Mac - Desktop App") | So you can recognise and deactivate a device in Settings | Our cloud database |
| Data | Purpose | Storage |
|---|---|---|
| Exports this month, current plan | Plan limits and feature gating | Our cloud database |
| Cloud AI request counts (managed Cloud AI only) | Monthly quota enforcement | Our cloud database |
| Feature-usage events | Product analytics (see 1.4) | Our analytics service |
| Crash and error reports | Stability and bug fixing | Our crash reporter |
We use an analytics service, limited to explicitly named events with hand-picked values: which feature was used, which style or preset was picked, whether it succeeded or failed, and simple counts. Autocapture and pageview tracking are switched off, so no click, scroll, or keystroke stream is collected. Your email, UID, and plan are attached to your analytics profile on accounts that sign in.
Session replay is not used and is not permitted in LazyReel. We do not record your screen, capture the page contents, or take heatmaps. Microsoft Clarity, which was used in an earlier version of the app and named in a previous version of this policy, was removed in July 2026 and will not return: a session-replay tool in a video editor would capture transcripts, captions, filenames, and project content, which contradicts the promise above.
Analytics honours the browser Do Not Track signal and can be turned off entirely in Settings. It is disabled in development builds.
Crashes and unhandled errors go to our crash reporter, and nowhere else. A report contains the error message, a stack trace, the app version, the operating system version, and a short trail of recent in-app actions. Personally identifying data is not attached (personally identifying fields are disabled at the source), performance tracing is off, and session tracking is off. Error messages and stack traces occasionally contain a file path from your machine; we do not use these for anything other than diagnosing the fault.
Purchases made on lazyreel.app are processed by our payment processor. We never see or store card numbers, CVV, UPI handles, or bank details. the processor's own privacy policy applies to the payment itself.
If you use LazyReel through Setapp, billing is handled entirely by MacPaw (Setapp) and we receive no payment information from you at all.
We do not collect, access, or store:
We do not train any model on your content. Nothing you edit in LazyReel is retained by us for model training, evaluation, or dataset building, and our managed Cloud AI does not log or keep request content.
Where a request is passed on to an AI provider (see section 4), that provider's own terms govern what it may do with the request. One thing worth knowing if you use your own API key: some providers treat free-tier API usage differently from paid usage, and may use free-tier requests to improve their products. If that matters to you, check the terms of the provider account whose key you have entered, or use the on-device features in section 3, which send nothing at all.
These features never make a network request with your content, and work offline:
Only when you start a cloud feature yourself. Each one sends the following and nothing more:
| Feature you start | What is sent |
|---|---|
| Cloud transcription or captions (any engine other than on-device Whisper) | A compressed, audio-only copy of the audio being transcribed |
| Director, One-Click Edit, AI captions and B-roll planning, script and mood analysis | Text only: your transcript or lyrics and the instruction prompt |
| AI image or video generation | Your prompt text, and any reference frame you explicitly attach |
| AI voiceover, music, or sound-effect generation | Your prompt or script text; for voice cloning, the voice sample you select |
| Stock media, GIF, and meme lookups | Your search terms only, to the stock provider |
| Importing from a URL (for example YouTube) | The URL you paste; the media is fetched directly to your Mac |
| First run of on-device transcription | A one-off download of the Whisper speech model from our model host. No content of yours is sent. |
In every case the relevant AI provider's own privacy policy also applies to the request.
