Edit iPhone HEVC footage on your Mac, no converter needed

iPhones record HEVC by default, and plenty of editors show a black thumbnail or a codec error when you import it. The fix is automatic transcoding to an edit-friendly format on import, while keeping the original for final render quality. LazyReel does this silently the moment the file lands.

Step by step

1. Drag the iPhone clip (HEVC .mp4/.mov or ProRes) into LazyReel.
2. The app converts it to an editable H.264 proxy automatically; the original stays on disk for export quality.
3. Edit normally: transcript cuts, captions, B-Roll.
4. Export in up to 4K.

Does converting HEVC lose quality?

The edit preview uses a converted copy; heavy lifting like color and final encode reads your original file, so delivered quality is unaffected.
