Transcribe video on your Mac, fully offline

Cloud transcription means uploading raw footage and paying per minute. On Apple Silicon, Whisper runs locally fast enough that for most content you never need the cloud: private by construction, free after download, and available with no connection.

Step by step

  1. Open the Captions panel and choose the on-device engine.
  2. First run downloads a Whisper model (a few hundred MB, cached).
  3. Transcribe: word-level timestamps power captions and transcript editing.
  4. Optionally switch to a cloud engine per-video when you need maximum accuracy on hard audio.

How accurate is on-device Whisper?

Very strong on clear speech; cloud engines still win on heavy accents, crosstalk, or noisy rooms, which is why LazyReel lets you choose per video.

Is my footage uploaded anywhere?

Not on the on-device path: audio extraction, transcription, and rendering all happen locally.
